Franco,
“Better” is a relative term. It really depends upon your goals and you’re available monetary resources. If the engines are in good shape to handle a synthetic oil and you’ll be comfortable using the drain suggestions of the oil manufacturer (or those specified by oil analysis), then, in the long run, you’ll probably be further ahead going with a better oil and filter and utilizing the extended drain capability of the oil and/or filter.
You don’t necessarily have to change the oil “more often”. If you’re using a good quality filter with good capacity, you may very well get long life out of it as well. Moreover, if you utilize bypass oil filtration, you may find yourself going long intervals between filter changes as well, depending upon the brand.
Oil analysis is always your friend here, as it will not only tell you how the oil is holding up, but also whether the filter(s) is/are still doing the job.
Not sure if that helps or not. I know it’s not a completely concrete answer, but, it’s the best I can give you. If you’re looking for the most LONG TERM savings, and you want to keep the vehicles as long as possible before having to replace them, then I’d go with a more premium oil and filter and utilize oil analysis to determine when a change is needed.
You’ll likely save money on oil, filters, fuel, maintenance and replacement, even though you’re up-front costs may seem a bit high.

I see no reviews or questions on bypass oil systems or folks that do analysis. Do you have any suggestions?
How do the Napa Gold filters rank? That’s what I normally use.

LikeDislikeAs far as analysis, Blackstone Labs is a good company used by many. I would not hesitate to use them.
Regarding bypass systems, there are a number of decent systems. I, personally, like the AMSOIL units. However, you can see a pretty good cost comparison of the various units on the market within The Motor Oil Bible.
Napa Gold filters are decent. There are higher efficiency filters out there, but, if you were running a bypass filtration system, the full flow filter you use would become much less critical.
